Avaya IP Phones.

Hi.

We've recently had an Avaya IP telephony system installed on our site.

Now, i visited another site that had IP the other day and the NM there could manage his entire phone, contact lists, calls, voicemail, ect; from his laptop, and have the calls go through his laptop.

Needless to say, i want! .

 

Is this, or similar, possible to do with an Avaya system?

We have a chat/ voice ip system by amteus, is very good!

We run an avaya system, on the config i have it set up to email me the voicemails, can do a directory lookup from the phone to find other users (Avaya's phone directory). And its a good mix of analogue, digital and VoIP.

 

As the analogue lines are being killed off by age and lightening im replacing them with VoIP by simply setting uip an extension, a user then tagging the port on the switch to the Voice VLAN and then PoE the phone.

 

Happy days, fires up and asks for the extension.

 

Not sure about interacting with the phone directly via a laptop tho.

you can control Avaya IP hardphones using the IP softphone application. Do you have licences for this?

We put in an Avaya IP Office over the summer and part of the deal was a site lisence for "PhoneManager" which is basically a cut down version of the soft console our reception use. It doesnt work so well for our IP Dect handsets but for analogue users its great as they get all that functionality without the need for an IP phone.

We have gone 50/50 ish IP/ana and so far, so good - great system.

You can use 4 types of phone with the Vaya IP40x series

 

Digital - connects to the unit directly and powered by the unit

 

Analogue - connects to the unit, limited functionality on the handset

 

IP Phone - connects via the LAN can be POE or powered by 240v

 

All 3 can use the Phone Manager software to control the phones. You can use an analogue handset but by using the phone manager software you can use the full functionality.

 

Soft Phone - use a latop as a phone controlled with the 'soft console' which is identical to the phone manager software.

 

You can use the IP Phones at remote sites with have a VPN. If you have Phone Manager 4.01 or later software, some handsets can set up their own VPN and connect to the system.
