Disk Quotas

Using Windows Server 2003 and roaming profiles.

 

Is there any way to exclude the roaming profile from the disk quotas?

In fact, is there the ability to exclude any folder from the disk quota function?

If you use the R2 release and the new Quota function you can do much more than the standard disk quotas in 2000 and 2003. As far as I know, standard quotas you cannot exclude anything from them.

You can exclude administrative users. Thats about it.

You could change the ownership on the profiles... change them so that 'Administrator' owns them and then don't apply the quota to the administrator.

I dunno how you guys put up with such pathetic quota support. Works alright over here in *nix land fine (and has done for a couple of decades).

 

Anyways, back to the original question. Simple answer is no, you can't. There's various (suitably expensive) 3rd party addons that will allow you to do this of course. It depends how bad you need the functionality I suppose.

 

For what its worth. I tend not to bother with quotas on w2k3 server.

The R2 version solves all these problems pritty much, you can exclude subfolders etc....

We use Storage Exec for quotaing which is what the built in Windows crap is based on. It's good

I'm sure that my way does work cos I had a few folders with the wrong ownership which meant that they weren't getting added to the quota total for that user... this isn't good when it is a teacher with a couple of gigs of music (which they shouldn't have anyway!)
