We have a Stone machine from last year that seems to keep losing the fact it has a enabled onboard NIC!

The lights are there and flashing but under Windows no NIC shows up in device manager.

However if I disable the NIC in the BIOS, then enable it again, it magically comes back?!

Any ideas what is going on...

Rather than enable/disable try removing the power cable from the machine, push in the power button to discharge it and then put the power cable back in and see if it fixes it.

We had one that wouldn't boot from wol. We changed everything, ended up swapping the machine. Give Stone a ring, most of their kit comes with a 3 year warranty.

I will find out the motherboard tomorrow, couldn't tonight as there was a night class.

To be honest Stone kit seems to be going downhill...Especially since the merge with Compusys! :(

Had this alot with Stone PCs

The BIOS needs to be reset, by removing the relevant jumper on the mainboard or taking out the battery.

On baord NIC shoudl be back, to prevent it happening again (supposedly) update the Bios, Note that updating the bios with out first reseting it does not bring back the NIC

We do that here too, and if that dont work we just get the board replaced.

Weird. We have a few hundred Stone machines here and have never had this particular problem, nor do we generally get any real problems with them. Occasional disk failure is taken care of quickly by their support guys, and their stuff now has a 5 year warranty.
