Has anyone ever come across a problem where Publisher 2003 creates gigabytes worth of temporary files and stores them in the Application Data/Microsoft/Publisher folder?

I am an extremley regular publisher user, both here and at home, and have not been aware of this. But as this folder doesn't get written back to the server, and there's bags of space on the machine hard-drives, it wouldn't have become an issue. I will have a poke around and see what I can find.

Under what circumstances do you seem to be getting this? I'm happy to try and replicate it.

It's actually writing back to the profile folder on the server and therefore it's taking the user about 20 minutes to logon at times! The user in question doesn't use Publisher that much and isn't doing anything out of the ordinary.

I've just taken a look at my Roaming Profile on the server... all that's in Application Data/Microsoft/Publisher is a 1.06Kb pubcmd.dat file

What are you getting?

Lots of temporary files begininng with pf. I've just deleted them all, 16GB worth, and I'll see how long it takes for them to return.

Just a thought: I had something peculiar like this happen with Word 2003 .

It turned out to be a permissions problem. I still don't know how it happened, but the permissions were such that the temp files weren't being deleted because the user didn't have permission to delete files from that folder.

All of the folders in the Application Data are set as read only, but then under the security tab the group this person is in has full control.

I'd try (as a one-off) specifically granting full control to this user and see if this fixes the problem.

Double-check there are no Prevent privileges over-riding your good work at the same time.
