Actually if he's learnt html and css he's done the hardest part - joomla etc are much easier to understand if you've got html knowledge.

I like it simple and everything you need

I think we are paying somone to do ours and it wont be cheap, about how much time would you say and cost to the school did this site take.

How do other feel the role of the school website has changed, ours will now be a publicity tool as school work will all be on our VLE.

I like it - looks a professionally designed site, nice and clean. Is the layout design yours or did you use a template or is it just notepad?

I made the design myself simply using divs, a header and footer image and banner images for the right hand side.

I spent I would say a good month on it, including still doing all my other duties. Had I received the content from teachers I asked for it would have been done in 2 weeks or so. Couldnt say how much it cost, its in my job description. This site is infact just the start. I want to add all sorts of nteractivity, podcasting, vle's etc. but not with straight html and css. Once I've learnt abit more about Joomla I hope to move the entire site to it. Then I hope to go to twon on it. The school I am at has never had a website, this is the first.

Ive put Google analytics code on the site. The site has been up for 10 days exactly after 12pm tonight. In that time we have had 672 visits, 415 absolute unique visitors, etc. so I think we are receiving some good traffic. Probably 1/4 of the school dont know about it yet, much of the public dont know about it, its not indexed by Google yet.

Content from teachers is very difficult to come by, you just have to persevere, talk softly and carry a big stick. While your head appreciates that projecting a positive image of the school is vital (funding follows the pupil) those at the IWB face may feel that this has nothing to do with them; they are there to teach, not market the school. And some of them simply can't be arsed.
