Hi there

 

i would like to ask if anyone knows of any good software for catalouging my cd collection, I have had a browse round google, but nothing jumps out at me. Or has anyone done something similar with Access and would be willing to let me have the template (?)

depends what you mean by a catalogue...

Well what I meant was some form of database. I have had a look at the office templates but the music one seems to run with errors and so I need to shut down accesss

Libra | DVD, Book, Audio CD, Game library organizer software is quite snazzy although a little slow, recently added most of mine to it - if you have a decent webcam you can use it as a barcode scanner and have it look up all the info on Amazon. Very handy! A few quirks though.

 

If you don't mind spending a little cash, I loved the collectorz.com software before my trial ran out. CD Database Software, catalog your CD collection automatically - you could install libra and use their webcam barcode app to enter the CD IDs into that too

I've set a reminder and will try to look at home - I went through the first few pages of Google for (primarily) DVD collection software (as DVD Profiler decided that it was time to start charging ), and found a few that did CDs too. Never got around to actually trying anything out, mind you!

easy on the exclamations chief, don' wanna wear out that 1 key...

 

If you've got an old box you could set it up as an internal webserver (maybe use it as a media library/torrent downloader as well) and put VCD-db VCDdb on it.

 

Not used it myself but heard good things about it - but it runs best on a machine other than your main workstation

I like this (use 1 for all my disks in office ) database means you can search by disk,track and artist

The only possibly useful alternative that I found at home (I was pleasantly surprised to find that I'd saved the links in a "Collection Software" folder, but it was mainly for movies) was Data Crow. Not entirely sure why I decided Libra looked better, as it no longer seems to be in development. I did like the look of the Collectorz stuff, but would need Books, Movies, Music and Comics so it was too expensive!

 

If you have a PDA, have a look around the appropriate sites - there are usually plenty of "cataloguing" apps.
