I am just about to create a new ghost image for some new PCs we have got.

I am thinking of running sysprep before the ghost to wipe out all of the PC specific identifiers etc.

I haven't done it before and haven't noticed a problem but i thought I'd try and do it the right way!

Should I activate the PC before running SysPrep or after or is it irrelevant?

Don't you have a volume licence? If i remember correctly, if you activate it then sysprep/ghost and dump the image to another computer.. it will ask you to activate it again.

It is a volume license CD but it still asks for activation. It goes through no problem but it always asks.

Thought Volume Licence didnt ask for CD.... so do you have to ring up and get the activation code everytime you do an install?

volume license key and volume license disk doesn't require activation

You are using volume licensed CD bought by the school seperately?

I have to ask this but you aren't using the manufacturer's install CD?

If you have a VL CD with a valid VLK and your still getting this error then ring up your Microsoft Licensing reseller and get them to sort it out. You've been given the wrong disk.

We have been phoning telephone support and they sort it.

I think this might be right, I slipstreamed service pack 2 onto the sp1 VL disc so maybe that's what screwed it up. I 'll give my resellers a call and see if they can sort it.

I've had no problems slipstreaning onto volume CD's.

My one is only a XP "gold" [no SP] CD lol so for the sake of time and effort, I have no choice but to do it.

[or spend a minimal amount getting a new kit]

Cheers
