Acer Projector

A small school I help out has asked me whether the following is a good projector to buy:

 

Acer X1160 Projector Projector EY.J5601.001 - PC World Business Online Store UK - Buy The Best Deals Online.

 

I'm not sure about Acers so is this a good buy?

 

They are after a basic cheap projector as they have very limited funds. It's not going to be doing anything fancy so DLP/800x600 is fine.

 

I've seen:

dabs.com - NEC NP100 2000 Ansi SVGA Projector (60002292)

 

Any good?

 

Any other recommendations for projectors around this price.

we have a surpluss Sanyo PLC-XU75 Projector for sale if your interest you can have it at cost £595.00+vat all boxed and sealed ,

Correct focal length

3 year on-site warranty

1 Year lamp warranty or spare lamp

Universal mounting

 

We have a lot of cheap Acer projectors, and they are ok, but only ok.

the Toshiba SP1 is a winner in schools if budgets are a little tight, they are around the two hundred pound mark. Check the web

OK, had a bit more time to do some investigations - both come out about £220..ish

 

Acer: 2 year warranty and replacement lamps are about £200+

 

NEC: 3 year warranty and replacement lamps are about £130.

 

So definitely looks like the NEC one so far.

I would go for either NEC or Epson. Have seen mitsubishi's and other ones fall like flys or have issues and NEC's and Epsons at least from experience I have had have been really good.

You really should go for an XGA projector (1024 x 768) as recommended by BECTA.

This will ensure it works with newer laptops/PCs.

Can I ask an honest question to the school technicians (not competitors) on here?

 

Do you want a closed shop?

 

i.e only advertisers & the favoured few allowed to post & PM you with details of products & advice you have asked about.

 

or do you want genuine information about products / services that help?

 

I will be guided by you (not my competitors).

It's not a closed shop it's just that edugeek costs a lot to run and these advertisers pay money which goes towards the running of the site.

 

As part of this financial commitment it means they are free to advertise their goods and services in threads such as this.

 

If I don't want to buy from CP or anyone else then I won't I am quite capable of going elsewhere for quotes etc...

 

If I want a quote from your company I'd contact you and ask for one.

 

Why don't you stump up some advertising cash or do you think you can punt your wares for free on here?

I appreciate that it takes cash to run Edugeek & I genuinely think its an excellent forum.

 

We are considering advertising, I have recently been sent the prices.

 

I am trying to reach a happy medium.

 

I am not trying to advertise for free (or "punt my wares"!), I wish to simply give advice where I can & if we have a product or service thats suitable PM the relevant person.

 

To be fair I realise its probably not reasonable to post a price as this simply can antagonise competitors.

 

I have done this in the past & I apologise & certainly wont do so again.

That is the norm in all other forums that I participate in, where commercial information is involved.

Edugeek rules state there is to be no advertising from non paid up suppliers.

 

Why should those that choose not to pay be able to spam our members via the PM it's different if someone PM's a supplier and asks for a price.

How can they know what price etc we can do without us PMing them?

Elemtech - that has to be the most obvious advertising spin I've seen in a long time - pointless posts, all with your company sig abusing your position on the forum.

 

What's the point of CPLTD paying for the privilege and then you strutting all over it.

 

Either we have advertisers who pay or we don't. At this rate CPLTD deserves a refund. Shame on you.
