witch Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I have been asked to sort out a plan for replacing whiteboards -I have no idea what to do as no whiteboard in any school I work in has failed - until now! How long are they expected to last? All ours are the same age (4 years) so when and how would I start replacing them, and do I wait until they actually break?

Vegas Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 We have smartboards that are nearly 7 years old now, never had to replace one yet and I will only change them when they break, projectors are another matter, we have a rolling program to change them every 4-5 years.

The schools I attend have some promethean boards that are at least 7 years old. I have never had a problem with any of them.
plexer Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 We have 1 promethean that is 6 or so years old now and still works fine. I don't see the point in replacing one of these before it breaks maybe you need to build in a sum of x amount to cover the possibility that one may go wrong. If it hasn't done towards the end of the financial year then you have an amount that can be used elsewhere. Nothing wrong with our prometheans. Ben

Sirbendy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 hah, I agree. Our parent academy does though..4 year rolling programme. Suits us though - we just got 3 suites of P4/3.06Ghz/512mb/TFT machines for nowt. We'll be closing at the end of the summer 09 term, and I'm 99% sure none of our boards etc are coming to the new building. Out of all our SMARTBoards we only have one damaged one, and it does still work. I'm going to put a case to the head if I can for asset redistribution to primaries in the area.
bossman Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 5 years rolling program for projectors but some Promethean IWBs have lasted nearly 7 years they are pretty robust.

( who i think was asleep anyway..) We have a dont replace it until its totally usless and of no use other than a door stop... p.s. i still have an external scsi one speed cd drive for that use
