Rm easylink home directory fails to open using Vista!

Hi I am a teacher and on my old computer I could access all my files saved on the system at school using RM Easylink. It is fantastic as I now do not need to stay at school to do my work.

 

My problem started when I bought my new laptop (Vista). Since then I can not open my documents. When I click on Select this icon to show home directory the next page which appears is blank!!! It does not show me any of my files.

 

Any body got any idea what to do??

 

Our IT lady at school gave me this info but it did not work.

 

Symptoms

RM Easylink™ works locally on the Community Connect 3 network, and remotely for the majority of users without any problems. However, one or more remote users have problems opening their Home Directory. They receive an error message "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server" or the page loads but is completely blank.

 

Cause

There is a known and documented issue with Microsoft Webdav which has been addressed with a Microsoft Hotfix.

 

Requirements

Be aware that this problem has not been replicated by RM, and the Microsoft solution has not been validated. This Hotfix is NOT supported by RM.

Have you tired using something other than Internet Explorer? An example would be FireFox - Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable

Just tried it but no it says it needs IE 5 or above to work!

Have you tried adding your schools website to the trusted sites in IE?

Is it under a https connection?

Yes I've added it as a trusted site.

 

When you say is it under a https connection, do you mean that the address starts with https:// rather than www. ?

 

If so yes it starts with https:// (no idea what that means though!)

 

Anyone else use RM Easylink with Vista???

Do you have MS Office installed, if so which version?

I have MS Office 2007 installed.

 

Off to bed now if not will not want to get up in the morning.

Hi. Your network admin is along the right lines but that's the wrong hotfix, it's for XP and not Vista. The one you need is this:

The link you gave me was eactly what my network admin gave me! So it doesn't work.

 

Any other ideas?

 

I think I need someone from RM Easylink to be raeding this to sort out my problems

Okay, since the issue is only supposed to happen when Office 2003 is not installed, it might be worth installing this:

It contains several parts of Office 2003 that other programs can use but it won't affect Office 2007 in any way.

There are a range of issues with Vista and EasyLink.

 

If your 'IT Lady' has access to the RM support knowledgebase, she needs to reads article TEC1176224

 

Bascially the following needs to be adhered to:

 

a) Your CC3 server must be running Server 2003.

b) The EasyLink server must have a valid digital signature.

c) Your Vista machine must have the root certificate for the school network installed correctly.

d) Your Vista machine must run Office 2003 or 2007 and have the MS webfolders hotfix installed.

e) When logging in you must provide your fully qualified username.

Well it still isn't working! I am currently accessing my plans via my old computer as I still can't access them via my laptop.

 

I had a very long conversation with a very nice and knowledgeable advisor from county who tried various things but ended up saying that he was unsure why it wasn't working, he thought it could be connected to my laptop having:

• Vista
  
• Microsoft Office Word 2007
  
• IE 8
  

 

Since I last asked for help I have actually been signed off work by my doctor so it would make my life so much easier if anyone can work out how I can access my plans via the laptop.

Last we had found while testing this was that Vista webfolders seems inherently broken. Some may say this shoudl be generalised to Vista, but hey ho You may like to try mounting the Link as a network drive on your PC. To do this, click on "Start" then "Computer". In the window that appears, click on "Map network drive". In the "Folder" field, enter the path to your space - see our Apple instructions here as the path details are the same. Click on "Finish". After you have been prompted for your name and password in the usual way, your files should appear.

Thanks Tech Monkey, I think I did what you said and I tried a few other things (can't remember exactly what they were as just kept trying different things).

 

Well I can now open my files and look at them and save them to my laptop

 

BUT it will not let me save them back to my school site!

 

I get a warning message which says:

There has been a network or file permission error. The network may be lost.

 

Anyone got any ideas how I can solve this???

Here's my two penny worth. Based on my last few days challenges (!)

1 Reacting to the security certificate warning (if you get one) and then installing the certificate from the tool bar (red warning in toolbar) may start the import wizard but it doesnt download the certificate correctly. To do this I set a IE7 security setting Do not save encrypted pages to disk and then dload & saved the certificate. Opening the saved cert then starts the import wizard. It should then go to the Trusted Root Certificate Authority folder, not other people (default)

2 Logon sholud be servernetbios name\username eg myschool\smitht where your site domain is myschool.internal or myschool.local

3 There is a web folder handling issue see MS KB 907306

I have tested this on my laptop Vista/IE7 and can robustly Easylink. I can also remove certificate trash easylink and then restore by dloading/saving/impporting the cert. I dont have MS Office tho only Open Office. My desktop is a XP/IE6 as we are mainstream RM

 

I'm waiting for a couple of test users feed back. You can have a set of my draft notes if you mail msg me. Have fun!

I don't know if this is what should happen but when I click on

"Select this icon to show your Home Directory"

the next page is blank, which normally has the folders on it BUT the

"my computer" screen appears at the same time showing the folders and files.

 

Any ideas if this is why I'm still having problems??

Hi

We have the same problem with 'Vista and IE7'.

From my experience, for what its worth, it appears that if you use xp with an upgraded IE6 to IE7 there is no problem and all works fine.

The vista version of IE7 does not work, there must be some difference somewhere.

It doesn't matter whether or not you have office 2003 or 2007 it's still the same result.

I have searched the internet over and over and tried all the fixes mentioned and still a blank page when you documents, even RM are stumped.

Hi all iv had this problem before not with RM Easylink but with Optilink (NSO Ver) what version of vista are you using, I found that if you are using Home Basic or Home Premium then you will have trouble using webdav, but using Business or Ultimate it works fine, iv tested this on IE6 and IE7.

RM is aware of this issue and temporary work around we suggest customers is to uninstall the fix KB946026 from the stations.

 

Yes, you can advise users to remove the fix KB946026 until a permanent solution to this issue is developed
