We've not got to the colliding part yet...

When they start smashing things together we get to blackholeland... until then we're merely whizzing things around very fast.

I'm still hoping a dragon will fly out of the machine in a few weeks time. That or a time traveller.

After all, it's been suggested that a dragon from an alternate universe is as likely as a black hole swallowing us all, and that for time travel to work you could only go back as far as the invention of the first time machine... Something to come out of on the other end. I believe it's been speculated that this thing could act as that?

A dragon riding time traveller should be more than a match for one lousy black hole!

Good to see Google have faith that the end is nigh

Aww they could at least have a small collision maybe one that produces the same amount of energy as a gnat hitting a windscreen ;)

Wouldn't that energy depend on a few specifics?

I mean, if it's a future-car, which recently flew out of the collider and set of towards Antarctica on an inter-time skiing holiday (the first of it's sort, no less), and happened to hit a gnat which came from another universe (and actually looked a little like a tiny dragon), which also flew at mind boggling speeds, it's possible even that could open a local black hole...

Right?

Teenage son tried suggesting that there wasn't much point doing his homework last night! :D

Fortunately he was easily persuaded that, if the world didn't literally end, he might wish it had if his Maths wasn't ready for marking this morning! :p

I know i keep having to correct them that things get sucked into a black hole. They just look at me confused so i just tell them no the school wont explode.

Explode?

I did say to the kids - "If we're going to die, then since I've just renewed my car insurance, I'll be quite upset. And I'm only on page 251 of Pratchett's "Nation". "

They've all been convinced we're going to die..it's all we're hearing. One girl who was in the office gave us both a hug when we said "...but...it's been run already..and we're still here..". Kids...heh.

I said to my line manager - "look on the upside. If you die tomorrow, at least you kept your hair. If you don't, you have to face going bald even further. Oh, sorry, was that not tactful? Damn." :D

Sorry to break it to you, but in a few days (or weeks) time they start sending them in the other direction as well.

Most of us are children of the 80s right? If anyone knows not to cross the streams...

p.s. How is nation? Worth picking up immediately, or waiting for the paperback?

Nation? I always have difficulty in getting into "non Discworld" books (or the "science of Discworld series), but...I started reading at 6ish, by 7.30 I was up to page 251 and had to force myself to stop, or I'd have nothing to wind down with tonight.

Not bad at all..:) A departure from the Discworld, and easy to read. I just wish I could forget what I read so I can read it again. Never happens, sadly.
