Internet explorer no connection on first opening

Hello all,

 

I am having an odd issue on my teachers group policy.

 

For some reason when a member of staff opens internet explorer the home page goes to a DNS error page. Then when the user refreshes the page the internet is fine until they close IE and reopen it then the same thing happens.

 

The internet works fine for the children and my team. I am completely stumped

 

Any ideas would be great.

Not the same error as your are getting but after updates we found that IE7 was trying to connect to the runonce page to setup search engines etc and we had it blocked.so when user then pressed home button it worked fine.

 

We set up a test teacher account with all same GP then once we replicated the problem we put them in the admin group ran again this time it did its stuff logged of removed from admin group logged on as test teacher again all was well. So for my problem i had to just allow that MS runonce page told staff to run through it once and everyone was Happy.

 

Not sure if this will help you but would be worth following these steps with a test user might point to the problem.

Within GPO i set it to not use the run once option. Really can confuse the teachers and kids heh.

Managed to solve this in the holidays - turned out to be a registry thing that came from ISDN - default profile not set up correctly. Did a registry export before the error and after and compared the difference.

It does sound like a profile problem. Try creating and allocating a new profile to the affected users.
