Afternoon all,

Seems to be the new craze at the moment with our students, Only noticed it today but they all seem to be doing it, Google Doodle is just hundreds of games. The URL seems embedded into google so not sure if this is going to be easily blockable using Netwseeper. Anyone else seen this?

We do, however the URL's are generic google URL's, meaning it blocks the whole of google :)

Unless this is a recent change to it.

Just spoke with our ISP, looks like a new change for the games to be embedded into search, but they are already working on a Regex to try and stop the assetts loading, Fingers crossed.

I've recently been tackling this here. Managed to block it by putting the following into our URL deny lists:

www.google.com/logos/

www.google.com/fbx?fbx=*

dailygames.discover.google.com/

The only thing which it seems to have broken so far is the Google homepage logo, but it's a quick fix till I can look into it properly.

This blocks doodle games, old doodle games and the little games that replace the Google logo from time to time such as the World Cup (Yes I'm heartless).

Over years, I've accumulated:

(Whatever syntax your filter uses)

MUST have decryption to access the full details.

URLs:

google.co.uk/logos/fnbx*
google.com/logos/fnbx*

Keywords (yes I know I can consolidate, but I don't want to accidentally block FP's, but do want to block other national Google games without specifying them all.)

fbx=block_breaker
fbx=minesweeper
fbx=snake_arcade
fbx=tic_tac_toe
google doodle  (For search blocks)
google.com/logos/2010
google.com/logos/2015
google.com/logos/2017
google.com/logos/2018
google.com/logos/2019
google.com/logos/2020
google.com/logos/2021
google.com/logos/2022
google.com/logos/2023
google.com/logos/2024
google.com/logos/2026
googledoodle
io.google/2026/puzzle
logos/doodles/2017
logos/doodles/2018
logos/doodles/2022
logos/doodles/2025
logos/doodles/2026
/fnbx

I have a few caption and HTML code blocks in Impero too, some duplicating. *shrug*

If only Google would leave them be and not keep moving them.  It's like ad blocking and web proxies, they never sit still for long. Keeping them blocked is like painting the  Forth Rail Bridge.

I forgot I have these blocked as Keywords too:

gstatic.com/delight/funbox/arcade
gstatic/delight/katamari
gstatic/delight/minecraft

If you have "native Netsweeper" they would best blocked as "Wholewords" rather than "Keywords" as that stops any accidental "Scunthorpe problems" with short strings such as "fnbx"

For Netsweeper, depending on what your ISP imposes by way their own rules, you may need these at the Local List level rather than a Shared List.  I know it works properly with our current ISP.  The configuration provided by our previous ISP was mad as a box of frogs.

I am currently fighting this issue. My web filter will not allow me to add www.google.com/logos/ which is fun. I am trying to block it via blocking JS via intune (Cloud based site) any one got any tips?

I guess it depends on your filter product, and if you get it from your ISP, what they do to preconfigure.  If you can’t get a url block to work how about “google.com/logos’ as a keyword or adding the year as I did?
