can anyone shed any light as to how we get fonts added to the Papercut Global postscript driver.

we are using a mixed fleet of printers (cannon, Kyocera and Xerox), so need to use the papercut global driver rather than the vendor specific driver.

generally all works well, but recently we have had a couple of instances of fonts which our school uses not print well.

the fonts in question are "sassoon primary font" and the Open Dyslexic font.

initially with the Kyocera printers we thought we solved this on the Sassoon font as we got the printer updated and suddenly the issue went away, but now that issue is back and a different font is causing issues on a the xerox printer.

printing to a named printer (not using follow me printing and therefore using the device specific driver) works fine.

how do we get these fonts added in ?

The workaround is as follows.
  1. Open the "Printing preferences" dialog of the printer in question
  2. Click the "Advanced..." button to open the "PaperCut Global PostScript Advanced Option" dialog.
  3. On the dialog, you will be able to find the "TrueType Font" setting, which "Substitute with Device Font" is set by default
  4. Choose "Download as Softfont" and close the dialogs with the "OK" buttons
This will specify that all font glyphs used in documents being printed be embedded in the print data. The print data size will increase, but the fonts should be rendered as you see on the display.

I have just tried that (i even tried some of the options under "postscript Options")

All options i seem to try in here still result in an error when printing (this was on a Cannon which was my first one to try)

Error: invalidfont

OFFENDING COMMAND: definefont

Stack:

/Font

-dictionary-

/ADCFAA+OpenDyslexic-Regualar

I am yet to try on our other brand printers

Phew this is a doozy hey. I spoke with a dev, and his response follows:

It appears an error occurred while a printer was processing the embedded font data.
Does this issue occur with a different printer driver?

For example, the following causes are possible, but identifying the exact cause will likely require trial and error.
  • The font on the client machine is corrupted
  • The font prohibits embedding in data due to its license
  • The printer driver is failing to embed the font subset for some reason
They can verify whether documents using only fonts bundled with Windows can be printed with those fonts embedded. If printing succeeded, add other fonts one by one to identify which one causes the issue.

In any case, I think it would be better to open a support ticket.
