Hi,

Bit of nightmare here. We had 40 HP mini G9 desktops delivered which were intuned back in june by an external company.  When we plugged them in they had timed out of completed their process so we had to reinstall them all. Not that bad as it gave me time to get my head round the system.

Problem is they randomly hang at boot at the blue windows logo screen. I have tried.

Turning bitlocker off.

Turning all the HP bios security off

I've updating all the drivers and bios.

Nothings in the event log.

I ran sfc and repair.. it did find errors on one pc which is repaired . And th one next to it was fine.. rebooted and they both hung again.

HP have been out and said to make sure the bios is up to date as it worked fine when he came in.

I'm on 25h2 btw fully updated

I'm just running the HP UEFI diagnostics now but all looks good.

A couple have hung at the wolfguard logo which is why I thought it was a hardware issue.... We had 10 HP laptops delivered at the same time with the same intune policies but they work fine.

Has anyone seen this ?

Very random and very frustrating

Are they definitely booting as UEFI? Check BIOS is set to UEFI only. I have a feeling that windows logo means its legacy - if UEFI you'd get a HP logo and the loading animation... I might be wrong but worth a check!

Perhaps remove one from Intune MDM, flatten the drives and partitions and rebuild it with a vanilla Windows ISO making sure UEFI/Secure Boot is enabled and no legacy ROMS, etc. See if they boot without issue.

What 3rd party AV   / Security?

To what are they connected? Try a different monitor / leads, try without lan/wifi. Try different keyboards mice.

When you re-imaged them did you use the latest Windows release? Keeping the Windows install image  at the current release is much more important in an Intune managed environment than on prior systems.

Its been a decade since I last went deep diving with it, but Windows Performance analyser used to have a boot/hibernate profile for digging into hangs/delays during boot/logon:

Thanks for the replies.. I'll pop back in the suite at lunch and have another look.

The worst thing it's random so I think I fox stuff and it appears again. I just tried something when I left.. I unplugged the network and rebooting and they all rebooted instantly... Doesn't mean it's the issue as it's random but I need to look at that too.

I used the lat s 25h2 image and the av is defender. Some of them were on the older os but I upgraded them.... A couple are on US rather than English int too.

Thought I'd solved it . I disabled the startup options apart from the SSD.. 2 still did it.

Definitely using UEFI on all devices.

Room of 20 and 7 still went to the blue logo :(

Do the machines boot every time without the network connected? Are you running AD on prem still? Could they still be registered in AD in a hybrid setup and some GPOs preventing a boot?

I need to pop back and check, they have WIFI enabled so I need to disable this and check how they react when no network is attached.

Definitely just intuned and internet access straight to the web.. don't see the AD.

Yep, disconnect them see what happens. Then check with configuration policies are assigned in Intune. Try and reconnect to the internet and move a test device out of any configuration policy and see if it boots.

So I finally got to the bottom of it.

It was the fast boot option in the bios. I asked on the HP forum who gave me loads of stuff to try which I'd already tried but I missed that one. The hardware opbviously wasnt fully started when windows wanted it to be.

Annoyingly out of a lab of 20 probably 7 would hang randomly and the rest never did. Same OS level, all installed with the latest ISO, all up to date with drivers and bios from HP.

Must be slightly different hardware or something but at least its fixed.

I'd just started tinkering with the Intune policies to investigate so glad I found it.

I'm sure that in the distant past I've had this but me memories not like it used to be.  :)

I have just upgraded 150 HP machines , and have experianced this same issue ! ( With only 3 machines ? )

I was able to replicate the issue with a cold boot each time ( Plug turned off ) , then back on and start up.

Turning off fastboot also worked in the bios . Its a very strange issue as 130 of my 150 machines are the same hardware

Mine is also the 25h2 image
