Help recording sound from microphones direct to ipad - concert recording

We are looking to record our Christmas concerts, last year we upgraded our AV system and have a sound deck, stage mics and individual performer mics.

 

The Head has asked me to look into the best way to record the concerts and have the sound quality of the new mics as an input on the recording device. At the moment, that device is an iPad pro.

 

I've no clue with this type of AV setup, so am not even sure what to google?

 

If anyone has some tips and advice, I'd appreciate it.

Hmmm. It seems that the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter does in fact support microphone input, so if you plug in a feed via a three way 3.5mm cable you should be able to run from the microphone mixer into the iPad. No bluetooth or complication. You may need to split to run a power feed to the iPad too though.

From your description I think you need to take a stereo auxiliary output from the sound desk to the recording device.  I'd look to borrow/hire a proper USB/Firewire interface.  Something like the Focusrite Scarlett but check for correct interface to the iPad!

 

I'd avoid trying to split the microphones.

 

ETA - you need to manage the Head's expectations.  This isn't falling off a log easy; in fact, results may well disappoint without a LOT of work, cost and practice!
