PRTG Replacement? Server/Network monitoring solution

Hi all,

 

Long time PRTG user but the new subscriptions rates are a huge increase and we currently run about 2000 sensors.

I have dabbled with Zabbix, but its a lot of admin overhead, needs the Zabiix agent to monitor windows servers, and its based on Linux which just needs more skills/time to manage.

Just wondered what other schools\colleges are using now?

Not sure what costs have gone to but find PRTG one of the best to use and easy to use, not too difficult especially is already setup with it.

We use Mutiny (www.mutiny.com) - as it has something to do with a University (Oxford I believe) Educational discount is around 90% off the business price.

You can buy a physical appliance (at a much bigger cost) or just install it on a PC or VM.  I think it's free for 10 nodes so you can see what it can do.

We use Zabbix - while the initial config can be a little daunting, it is a great platform. Combined with Grafana, you can create a great monitoring system with very useful dashboards.
