What Mobile Windows Device...for Staff

Hey all,

If you were to decide upon Mobile Windows devices for staff (or have already done so) what would (or did) you go for and why?

- Laptop

- 2-in-1 Laptop

- Tablet (with detachable keyboard)

 

Also interested to know and hear real world feedback and experiences regarding makes/models used, and costs.

Laptops for all admin/support/teaching staff, with the exception that TA's each have a Surface Pro 12" with detachable keyboard.

 

Each desk (excluding classrooms, they still have desktops) has a docking station so staff can plug in and used it just as if it were a desktop.

The ones with the detachable keyboards - do you also supply pens/stylus?

Yoga 13W here for all staff. Touchy, flippy, pen and finger touch.

Easy to repair, metal screen housing.

No docks, wireless screen share.

Non-touch screen laptops. 

 

For the Surface Pro's, they come with the detachable keyboard and Slim Pen 2.

If you're looking for something like a Surface Pro, take a look at the Dell 7350 detachable. We get them for a similar price, but including the pen and a five year on site warranty with five year accidental damage.

If you're getting an actual Surface Pro, take a look at the Snapdragon version. I've got a laptop with the Snapdragon processor and the battery lasts ages and it's less affected by the unvented form factor.

If it was for me, I'd rather have a 2-in-1 device with a 360° hinge. It's more compromised as a tablet, but a much better laptop.

Non-touch, 14” laptops here - a good compromise of portability and usability. 16” for power users.

Laptops non-touch screen. Variation of two screen sizes for those who prefer the larger screens. Senior management in most places appreciate something like a surface pro in addition to their laptop.

We're surface pro for teachers - some staff love it, others don't and want more of a laptop form factor as they don't use its full features. 

 

I really want to love the surface more, but we have had a number of keyboard failures due to the connection design, especially staff who constantly flip it back as opposed to detaching. We've also had issues with performance,  but that is mostly down to not doing 16Gb ram because we got an incredible deal. The snapdragon devices are really good and we're rolling out some of the Surface Laptop Snapdragon devices to support staff - if all your software supports Windows on ARM.

 

The Samsung Book 360 range are really good too, they are a 360 hinge but don't have anywhere to store the S pen.
