Has anyone used/heard of SLTAI?

 

I've been asked to look at it by the head - seems ok at a glance but I've never heard of it myself

I'd ask myself what value it achieves over Copilot or similar, where the likes of Microsoft and Google both offer AI tools that I'd suggest more easily integrate with your schools tools and workflows. I'd also be concerned about governance - what does it do with your data.

I'd be shocked if this wasn't just a frontend for Vertex/OpenAi that's been RAG 'trained' on some specific docs, With some added prompts geared towards leadership roles. 

you can just upload the same docs to google drive and do that in notebooklm anyway. IMO something like this is only useful if there's an MCP server on the MIS to query.

Very true. If I  were going to this much bother I’d build my own document library with my own policy docs, access to online resources, and just use that.

Think DMJ is correct for most of these applications. They, for the majority, use an enterprise subscription to OpenAI (ChatGPT) and thus will have some control of what parameters are passed to the APIs in order to tailor any responses.

Declaration of Interest - I have done some work reviewing SLT AI works and discussing it with the founder.

 

I like SLT AI. They have taken the time to look at the quick info and other tools SLT needs, and work out the best way of using AI to siphon through it without it causing problems. 

Yes, you can do this yourself with enough time and tools, but you can say that about almost everything. As with other tools over the years, to some extent you are paying for the fact that someone has had the expertise to put together a solution. If it saves you time and lets you get on with other things ...

If your school has a subscription, The Key can do alot of whats in SLTAI, worth checking

Hi, I'm the CEO of SLT AI and stumbled across this thread so can explain a little more.  

 

Firstly, we're completely GDPR compliance and meet all DfE requirements - the TLDR version is we don't share your data or use it to train any of our models. 

 

What makes us different to generic AI like ChatGPT or Co-Pilot?  We have specifically trained our entire system on a huge array of educational guidance, policy and best practice so that our tools can give you an informed, and importantly, up-to-date response. 

 

We use a range of AI tools depending on the task at hand as different models perform better at different things so models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral and Google - which saves you having multiple subscriptions. 

 

We also contextualise each and every response with school specific information so you don't a general, vague response but something completely tailored to your school, your vision, you values, your context, your improvement priorities etc.  

 

Because we have built a range of tools, we are able to inject the correct information at the correct time rather than hoping a general AI will 1 - have access the background information we need and 2 - use this at the right time.  For example, we published a SEF Converter yesterday.  Simply upload your current SEF it will analyse, compare with the new OFSTED framework catergories and criteria and then output a new SEF based on all this information with gradings and recommendations. 

 

We have also built features to allow teams to share school specific information etc etc. 

 

Essentially, could you achieve what we do with generic tools?  Yep, absolutely.  It would just mean a lot more work for you - e.g. hunting the right guidance, adding your school policy information, OFSTED comments, improvement priorities, adding school context, iterating your prompt, finding the best model for the job etc etc etc.

This is unrelated to education but I asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Co-Pilot what the current stamp duty rates are on a second home in the UK (thinking of the current Angela Rayner media coverage).  All four got it wrong and didn't know about the October 2024 change.  

 

This is why SLT AI was created.  School leaders can't rely on tools that loosely refer to information that is a month out of date, let alone 10+...

apologies if I'm still a bit skeptical of this, it's a nice project it just doesn't seem to have any unique selling point.  It's hardly a lot of work to add DfE, Ofsted links along with school specific Google drive contents to NotebookLM and ask it questions.

Hi, I'd disagree that we don't have a unique selling point but that's ok.  You could absolutely recreate everything we do yourself, it's just a question of how valuable your time is.  For example, the new SEF Converter - upload your existing SEF based on the old OFSTED framework and it rewrites based on the new framework.  Upload a file, click, done.  

You can do this yourself but a lot of work getting the new framework in the required format, getting the instructions right so that it does what you actually need it to, then testing different models to see which works the best - etc etc etc.  As a HT, my time was way more valuable that the £95 a year this costs but, as I said, you could absolutley do this by yourself - just takes a lot longer - and this is 1 tool out of 160 (and growing).

£95/year is pretty reasonable. I know developers burning through that per day!

Yeah, I mean look at Oak - £2,000,000 from the tax payer. It didn't cost us £2,000,000 to set up and I have no intention of charging ££££’s like other leadership platforms. £95 is fairly I feel so we're happy there and it becomes a no brainer for leaders.

Incidently, I've just tried this as our Assembly Tool has been used a lot of create assemblies about Charlie Kirk - so I added a direct link to a BBC article and this was the response from The Key

It's amazing how SLTAI knew about a killing months before it happened to create a script about it... (Take this in jest but just an observation as to when said files were created and then again modified, maybe for another incident?)




But if you delve through the attached document it still has the same inaccuracies mentioned about AI previously where all it seems to be doing is scraping info that isn't always accurate and just repackaging it in yet another format that we're being told to totally believe in.

 

Silly examples, but just to make the point:

"During a public event at a college" - UVSC was changed to a university in 2008
"Charlie Kirk was shot and seriously injured" - You sure? 
"happened right in front of hundreds of people" - More than 3000 people were attending according to most new articles

AI keeps being spouted as the way forward yet all these examples seem to keep showing is that it's better to go to the original sources to read information, rather than relying on things that are being taken from across hundreds of sites and glued together. As it always seems to be mixing up multiple articles and sources and just getting random info that isn't accurate because it can't understand the context of the data.

Just my own two cents there, but I can just imagine the backlash from SLT who are using a script to tell students information that they would then argue against, and as soon as it's given incorrect answers once no-one would trust it again "Sir, Charlie was killed", "No Bobby, my script says he was injured!"

Ha - I would hope no one would do that - as always check the output but the article posted did refer to it as a college - I purposefully found an initial article about the actual killing because everything since has been more about legacy and aftermath.  You raise a good point about paraphrasing and something I will tighten up in the back end so it doesn't fill in gaps (with incorrect information) or change the meaning of things. 

 

The dates you shared, is that page modified?  The tools on the pages are embedded so the page updates don't reflect the actual tool updates as the embed code hasn't changed.  

 

If I could tell the future, it would be Euromillions all the way
