Microsoft Teams Policies (Student)

Hi,

 

Given that there are over 20 individual sets of policies available to apply to a user within MS Teams, is anyone kind enough to provide (or DM me) their settings which are applied to students? Even if just those that cover the minimum (e.g. call, chat control, app control supervised chat etc) as I am currently reviewing our existing ones. Are there such things as DfE recommended policies?

Currently trying to work out how to stop external parties chatting with students, if anybody has an answer for that.

We're trying to setup supervised chat in teams so Staff can contact students, but not the other way round.  Again, if anyone can shed any light as the MS information says "just do this" and you  can't!!!

We apply the Education Secondary School Policy Package via Group assignment to our students.

In the Meetings Policy for Educational Secondary Student we turned off all the options in the Meeting Scheduling.

Under meeting Join & Lobby, disabled the "Anonymous users and dial in callers can start a meeting"

 

We also disable the Video conferencing option under Audio and Video so their camera's can't be enabled.

 

We've had this set since the Covid Lockdowns and not had an issue to date.  Staff can create a meeting and invite the students, either via the whole team or individual

Hi All,

 

Just an update. Instead of using the "Teams for Education Policy Wizard" Teams for Education Policy Wizard to easily apply policies for safe learning - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn directly. Similar to @Boredguy, I have created custom policies that initially match those used by the wizard, (e.g. Global (Org-wide default)) and applied using Group Assignment. On the basis that any required tweaks can then be made accordingly and at a more granular level (e.g. Years 7-11, Sixth Form, Staff etc.).

 

I did note the following statement:

A bit unclear that when new policies become available, if your current 'Global (Org-wide) default' policies would be automatically updated, or only if you run the wizard again? I presume the latter. Either way, by using Group-specific Policies combined with Group Assignment that should eradicate this happening.
