andy_nic Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 We use Solidworks my question is do you run the software to the Spec of Solidworks as it seems to be very specific on Hardware even listing models, is anyone running the latest version and if so what hardware are you using for it? also what CAD software are their DT Department using.
PotNoodleTech Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 To be honest due to never being able to afford particularly great PCs our DT dept has moved on to web based ones now Onshape Autocad online and Tinkercad. They had to move to some web based in Covid as everyone was using chromebooks - and they havent really moved back. The new W11 image doesnt have any of that old crap cad software on it any more. Happy days!
3s-gtech Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 For complex projects, nothing beats proper CAD software but for most school stuff the web ones seem to tick all of the boxes now. We stopped deploying SolidWorks some time back - we hit the specs okay with cheap gaming GPUs but it was all overkill.
machy Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 We mainly use Sketchup online now, as its enough for whatever the students need. I Would push Autodesk over solid works if they wanted some "proper" CAD software, mainly as its free.
