MSOnline now out of date, so cloud connect?

I assume everyone has already done this but new users are not syncing for me... So I'll assume I have to update to Entra Sync, cloud sync?... Do I setup the new sync and leave the old one active? I see instructions for setting one up but not migrating from MSOnline.

I think I need a connect sync, as cloud needs a P1 Licence, so that answers a question..

Which says entra connect, so I'm up to date.. I mis-read a powershell plugin warning. 

 

now to find the missing user with no errors?!

What version do you have for Entra Connect , should show it on the Status page at the end https://admin.microsoft.com/adminportal/home?Q=entra#/modernonboarding/identitywizard

 

Imagine its the PowerShell that connect uses that is expired

Entra Connect Sync requires an update. You do not need any extra licencing to use this.

 

We're on version 2.4.131.0

 

You should be able to just run the .msi and it will update, no extra config required

my version is too old, so I only need to update the entra connect, no powershell stuff?

Its now called "Microsoft Entra Connect", however the desktop shortcut still says "Azure AD Connect"...

edit: you need powershell 5 as a minimum.

There is indeed! I don't believe it does auto update.. might be wrong though.

 

check version with 

$psversiontable

I believe that is showing due to the version of connect you are using, i'd get it updated when you can.

 

It's pretty simple just using the .msi

that is confusing as I am already running 2.4.131.0 (autoupdate must be working as I've not touched it in ages)

Hmm, can you force a full sync with powershell? Start-AdSyncSyncCycle

 

If you create another user, does that user sync?

Yes, I thought this as some AD changes were made but checking the user OUs were untouched.. I have just reconfigured and selected them again just in case... I did also try a full import earlier as well..

 

no errors, no sign of the user?!?!

ok, it seems that the Domain Controller it was querying is at fault... 3 good, 1 bad it chooses the bad, so that's a day wasted

 

Now I can worry about how a virtual DC gets screwy without any events?
