JATSO Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 So I am constantly getting a failed install on the above update error code 0x800f0993, tried the windows update troubleshooter along with sfc /scannow. Anyone have a solution for this other than a clean install? TIA
kennysarmy Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 Given that we are seeing about 5% of logons get a black screen with PC's upgraded to 24H2 I think you might be better off fresh installing.

Oaktech Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 (edited) We're actually seeing it be quicker to nuke from orbit rather than in place upgrade anyway. If a device manages to do the OTA upgrade, great, but if it fails then we don't run a manual inplace we remove it from Entra and and build it with a stick and a WICD profile. A build from stick on a 9th/10th gen i3 takes less than 30 minutes from hitting f12 to being ready for first login including installing all our apps, an inplace upgrade takes at least 45 minutes. GeneMoody-Action1 Posted March 28, 2025 Posted March 28, 2025 Does Get-WindowsUpdateLog provide further clues? I always factor in reloads to a fleet when doing version upgrades, some will just have strangeness not worth investigating.
JATSO Posted March 31, 2025 Author Posted March 31, 2025 All sorted now, carried out windows update troubleshooting section and it repaired the installation allowing the update to install took a few reboots. All sorted now just waiting to see if any of the staff laptops that are all Win 11 machines have the same issue, none as yet.
