Hi

Just wondering if anyone here has been to any national/regional data events or trainign courses that are any good and worth going to and you found useful/insightful?

Thanks

I went to an RTA training day on the DPA and FOI a couple of months back, ran by Charles Oppenheim, that was very good and I'd recommend it to anyone who works with data as much as we do

The best ones for data managers are the ones that allow opportunity built in to the schedule to do networking with other data managers.

I'll be at the SSAT data manager workshop in Manchester in November. SSAT | Data events Not been to this one before so I hope it is good, will be sharing some of my data there.

There's also an ASCL one soon and again in london sometime. Using data better: workshops for school leaders and their data managers not sure I can justify both this and the SSAT one.

For senior leaders there's an ASCL conference in february in birmingham, data managers would also benefit from that but it will be mainly speeches and less networking. I like the networking element. Leadership of data: advanced

Is anyone going on the Optimus conference in January?

I've been on an optimus conference once before and found it very useful, but that was quite a few years ago. I'm most interested in the sessions about the government changes and getting a handle on all that. They also appear to have data workshops which are always useful.

I haven't decided whether it is worth going yet, so would be interested to hear if anyone else is going.

I was pondering if the Edugeek conference could benefit from a data management segment. Trouble is it wouldn't be especially relevant to the majority who attend for tech related stuff.

I went to an Optimus one last year in January and found it excellent gave us a lot of good ideas, our MIS Officer\Manager and a member of our SLT is going again this year in January, was probably one of the best conferences I went to.

Hello all

New data manager here. Reading through the posts on here is proving very useful. Based on the recommendations in tihs thread, I think I am going to go to book myself on the the Optimus conference. I wish I had found this forum a term ago!

Thanks!

That conference looks interesting but seems expensive to me. That said I have done about 5 full days of training on various aspects (no pun intended) of SIMs assessment manager and excel reporting which has cost a lot more. Main problem I have had this term is keeping up with the different ways that the DFE/Gove have come up with for measuring progress at KS4.

To be honest, I usually base my decision on courses on how good the food was. My memory of Optimus was that they did very good food. I went on an Osiris course early this month (attendance for OfSted) which put an exceptional spread on. Roast minted lamb with all the trimmings and eton mess for dessert. Smashing. If I was in change I'd probably judge schools in the same way.
