[bromcom] Pupil Reports

For anyone who has migrated from SIMS to Bromcom - how to pupil reports work? We have two reports a year, one is a marksheet based grade only report and the second is the same, with pages for teacher comments based on comment banks (Profiles).

 

We then have to use Edulink One to send them out digitally to parents.

 

How does Bromcom deal with this? I know there is a Parent App, but is there a Pupil App? (as with ClassCharts)?

 

With Swansea moving this year over to Bromcom I am trying to get my head around some of the changes I will have to deal with when I push the project through for the school.

Sure - I am just saying the LA are doing the project so make sure they do the work for the Swansea Schools as they're all earning the $$$$ make sure the tax payer is getting value out of that $$$

Bromcom has a student portal app where the students can log in and see their timetable etc, you can configure what they can see in the same way you can for the parent app.

The basic process is

1 Design the report in a word docx format, including unique data keys to plot where you want the data to appear

2 Design your data retrieval webmerge Quick report in the MIS

3 Complete the steps of the Webmerge execution

a: The first time you run the webmerge report you upload the template, subsequent first steps are to review the template for changes

a : Map the data from your data report to the fields in the template

b : Decide any complicated bits such as "remove empty data rows from any tables for subjects the students doesn't take£

c : Generate and review and/or publish the output to the parent portal and/or the student portal

What John is saying and the guide are good.

 

The LA I expect would be pushing for full adoption of MCAS in order to drop Edulink and avoid the extra costs you're incurring around that. But I'd say it's important to check with them on what their expectations are of the school. You'll be wanting to take a step forward with MCAS (which is brilliant IF it's set up and used properly), not a step back in reverting to email or paper (yuck).

Hey, don't diss paper.. paper has been a stalwart ally in the education sector for longer than any of us have been alive

Thing is can you really be sure your LA will get it right? it's good to plan - our LA is moving to Arbor by Easter but we have had a few delays I think - for me luckily I can stay out of it but we are planning paper registers etc just incase

And you can probably use the template you create whether or not the LA do the report definition work for you!

We will do everything as we do with SIMS. Support will be there if needed but the web notes and training videos have been good so far.

Afternoon @Bromcom_Alastair - We've managed to create marksheets and put comments in our comment bank (in my subject as a trial).

 

However - I cannot find any instruction on how to create a place to enter comment banks to create reports (which then get web merged in).

 

Can you find me a link that talks about using comment banks? (not creating them)

Hi Gareth,
There is no difference for comment banks on report output. For any of the report outputs you just need to ensure you pick the correct 4 parameters to identify the data.
Year Group - Self explanatory
Term - Likewise explanatory
Subject - Dependent on the subject entered against
Assessment type - Comment. 

The below link ought to give you some guidance. But within the template if you put in the data keys for the information with the above parameters you will be able to draw out the comments for the student.

Within your assessment template define a column with the assessment type of comment for them to record the comments. These can be entirely free text or using comment banks.
This can be either as an additional column to include the subject based comment alongside the subject gradings or an entirely separate template with all of the subject comments gathered in one place.
"Comment" is just another generic grade type that you define when putting your assessment types together.

Ahh right - I cannot create a 'Comment' assessment type. I have

Ahhhhhh gotcha - any advice on max/min length?

Only that you know your staff. A reasonable lower limit prevents twitter style reporting and a reasonable max limit will curtail your more verbose staff.
I tend to go for 50 at the low end and then maybe 2,500 at the top.
