Hi Everyone. I was hoping I could get some advice on what my fellow Bromcom users use for their emails.

Do you use Bromcoms own SMTP server or a 3rd party?

Management aren't too keen on paying for emails but I don't feel the Google relay is going to cut it.

Would really appreciate your thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks

Interested to hear thoughts on this too - we're going down the route of Google for now but it's looking likely that we might need to use Bromcom's going forward. Bromcoms pricing isn't must more than most other SMTP services at least.

We went for the Bromcom emails as we wanted to use it our primary parent communications system, which meant whole year and whole school mailshots. So any SMTP server would need to support bulk sending and have all the necessary stuff to not get instantly blacklisted or disabled for "spam", which (for us anyway) would have meant paying about as much as buying additional emails from Bromcom but with added complexity.

And given the system we were moving away from had a lot of problems with email delivery, we really didn't want anything that would be on us to troubleshoot when it inevitably stops sending to Hotmail accounts.

Went with Bromcom's just for ease of use. Pricing is reasonable.

Would suggest asking the Bromcom Community this one to see what others are doing - may be more responses than on here, and more tailored to your situation.

We use our own 365 SMTP settings, I don't remember how I got it working but as I look over to the mailbox we use sitting with 31,000 emails sent since 27th Jan I think it's best we don't have to pay for the email function.

@cnewstead - Wait til MS limit bulk-email sending later in the year... https://www.theregister.com/2024/04/16/microsoft_external_recipient_limit/

Starting from January 1, 2025, Exchange Online will begin enforcing an External Recipient Rate (ERR) limit of 2,000 recipients in 24 hours for cloud-hosted mailboxes of all newly created tenants. Between July and December 2025, Microsoft will start applying the limit to the cloud-hosted mailboxes of existing tenants.

That 2000 limit isn't too bad, just means our comms will need to be more sensible and focused. With MCAS a lot of these emails get sent as push notifications via the app anyway.

We tried to use Google with Bromcom when we forst bought into Bromcom back in 2019 but the Google SMTP servers said Nope at 80 messages in a single mail strom to parents. We ended subscribing to Bromcom's SMTP service.

We use Bromcom's SMTP service. I presume that means that we will be unaffected by the above?

I presume so... no idea how BC run / provision SMTP for customers, but I don't think they use MS for it.

I have a feeling they use SendGrid from past dealings when they had issues.
