USB C portable screens

Due to mis-communication, we have 6x Asus USB-C portable monitors. The laptops they want to use them off are HP 250 G7s (the DFE model from when covid and DFE dished out devices).

 

The HPs do not have any USB-C ports.

 

 

I have tried a HDMI cable to Benifi HDMI - USB-C cable - but it doesn't draw the power.

 

 

Does anyone know of any sort of hub that I could get that would provide USB 2 from the laptop to the the USB-C for display?

Any device would likely be more expensive than the screens, as it would have to compress and uncompress the data, like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayLink does

You are very unlikely to get that to work, as you need a USBc port with DisplayPort out and you are not really going to get that unless you go down the USB Port Replicator route, and then you usually have to install the displaylink (or other) drivers on the laptops to make that work.

We use these to connect our Smartboards to the teacher's laptops, might be worth checking to see if it works?

 

 

Have to plug it in for power but might work?

This mis-communication, did it go along the lines of (substitute Computing staff for SLT/Business Manager etc.):

 

Computing Lead: Hmmmm... I've seen another school using these new shiny things...

Computing 2nd: Yeah they look cool, they'll really help make us look fancy, cutting edge and like we know our stuff... I mean they'll be great for... errrr... productivity!

Computing Lead: Look, here's some on Amazon, Ima order me some of these bad boys...

Computing 2nd: Should we ask the IT department to confirm they will work...?

Computing Lead: Nah, we know computerz!

Amazon parcel arrives, they try to plug them in to all the ports... HDMI... no, USB-A... no, Ethernet... no!

 

So they pile them on the technician's desk with a post it note, demanding they get them working as 'there must be something wrong with the laptops'...

The Asus Zenscreens we have came with a USB-C to USB-A adaptor that (in conjunction with Displaylink drivers) work fine on a USB3 port (blue "tongue") on a ProBook 400 series. Haven't tried on a 250.

I've had a play with exp-pen cable now I'm home and as far as I can tell it is doing standard usb-c display out. I wouldn't want to guarantee anything, but it looks like it might work for you.

I am not being funny but surely it would be easier to admit defeat just buy 21" 1080p screens for like 50-60 each and live happily ever after?
