Hi all,

Dose anyone know if you can create custom absence attendance code in Bromcom? When I bring up the attendance box for creating new attendance codes, the "Meaning" option is set to Present and greyed out so I can change it.

Thanks.

Normally yes - but I just tried on mine and I can't add any new ones.

I'll check on their community site to see if they've either broken it or changed it and not told us.

I've thankfully got a load of custom codes setup already for the year. Both present and absent.

Suspect they've broken it. Be careful experimenting, or you may find you create a custom code you then cannot delete!

Not sure if I am missing something, but aren't attendance codes DfE defined? So, unless these are non census reportable attendances, would you then need a mapping of your custom codes to the DfE ones?

Yes, there are DfE defined codes and, yes, you do need to map your custom ones to a DfE one - but by using custom you can be more refined, especially when looking at lesson codes rather than session codes. For example, a lot of places will use a custom code for "forgotten PE kit" which is used to identify trends etc but maps to "present" for DfE purposes.

Yeah they basically want "child not in lesson, but in safe place with responsible adult" code for internal reporting. But they want it to read as unauthorized absent on MCAS so the parent knows the kid wasn't where they should be.

I managed to speak to someone at Bromcom who's said, they don't let schools make absent codes due to the risks of it effecting the statutory attendance figures. But they were happy enough to change it for me.
