Someone help me out here (google noob)

We have a few staff members which would like youtube premium (for music/digital media lessons).

We don't use any google services as we're a full microsoft school, however historically we do have a google tenant setup under our domain name. I've recovered admin access to this. I'm unable to add any users - correct me if i'm wrong but I thought that the basics on google edu were free of charge? It's asking me to add licences before I can create any users.

If you look in Billing > Subscriptions, do you have Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals? It should say free plan active for all users.

EDIT: As mentioned above though, this won't include YouTube Premium.

My understanding is the Youtube isn't part of the "Core" service so you'd have to buy a license for this. We're on a paid tier of Workspace and still don't get youtube premium.

unless i've been missing something for years!

I've just done some reading & I don't believe you can even manage YouTube Premium via Workspace. My concern was we don't even have the free edu licence which allows the basic functonality of creating users etc

We have no subscriptions listed, reckon I need to get in touch with someone at google?

Yeah as HyperTech said, if you use the contact support button in Workspace, as long as your tenant has been verified with an educational domain etc, you should be able to be assigned licenses for free.

Filled out a contact form.

Now i'm wondering what the best way to go about getting YouTube premium is, since it can't be managed via Workspace. I'd also assume we will need two licences for our two teachers. Does anyone else have YouTube premium & how did you go about it?

If you click on the question mark icon in Google Workspace you should be able to live chat with a support agent. From a quick Google it doesn't look as though there is any way to manage YouTube Premium subscriptions from Workspace so it may be that you have to manually sign up the two accounts in question which could be a bit of a PITA, but the support agent should be able to tell you for sure.

I tried that, however it just opens a window with a chat bot. Tried various times to get through to a live chat but failed. Just points me to articles when I describe my issue.

Type speak to agent and submit, and then do it again, then click continue to support, Google Workspace and then click I need more help. Type YouTube Premium as your issue and then click on 'this is not my issue'. This should then give you the support chat option.

The support chat can be a bit of a pain. You have to keep clicking "this is not my issue" and "continue to support" to actually connect to a live agent.
