Hello

With the need for Windows laptops to be issued to a few students to learn from home. What options do people use for web filtering on these devices and do you get alert messages and can you also update the block list remotely.

Many Thanks

If you are a Smoothwall user you can already expand your coverage by installing our agent on the laptops

We'd also be interested in what's needed to set this up

First step is to contact your CSM - they'll work out what you need to get it kicked off, and raise a project. If you don't know your CSM, feel free to contact me and tell me who you are and I will hunt them out.

The Smoothwall cloud filter works fine for us. We also have keyword monitoring set up in Senso to alert on risks that don't pass through conventional filtering such as attempts at bullying though shared documents.

We use lightspeed, Gives you full control over the web filtering and only selected staff (safeguarding team in our case) will get the alerts when certain words or searches are used. Overall it is pretty good but we have had issues with the Sync from AD Going haywire every so often

We have Securly as our filter. We configure student laptop using Intune and deploy the Securly browser extension. This applies the same level of filtering as it would if they were in school. We also have an 'out of school hours' policy that frees things up a bit, to allow things like Streaming Media, etc. Activity shows up in the Securly Filter Activities page. I know you can also give some parental control, but we don't currently do this, and I've no experience of how that works.
