Redstor V Baracuda

Hi all, hit me up with your views on Redstor V Baracuda. This is for on prem as well as Office 365 backups. One tenant, but multiple sites.

 

Which do you use? Which do you prefer? Any complaints?

 

We were using Veeam, whilst ok for on prem VMs, Office365 has been a mess.

Redstor, no complains, works well.

We looked at both for our O365 backups and stuck with Barracuda - it just seemed a better polished product although as Redstor was relatively new, I am sure there's further work to be done to mature the product more. If we had nothing to compare Redstor with however, we wouldn't have had any issues going with them.

Redstor. Had no issues since we started using it around Spring 2023.

 

Support has been great, pricing seems reasonable (definitely not the cheapest option though) and very easy to use.

 

Haven't used Barracuda since the old LTO tape days but I always found their support to be abysmal.

Look at synology too a lot of schools are using that in the LA next door - redundancy on the backup storage with multiple units at each school and office and google backup, and works with Veeam for your VM backups.

We use Barracuda Essentials Cloud-to-Cloud backup for Microsoft 365. I'm also considering moving to Redstor for our vSphere backup, so will likely look at their Microsoft 365 backup if we do. However, I do really like the Barracuda Email Gateway Defence, that is included in Essentials, and would really miss that. It picks up and blocks loads on stuff. We've also recently added their Incident Response and Impersonation Protection products. The AI does pick up some stuff that gets through the Email Gateway, and automatically moves it to the user's Junk Email folder. You can then use Incident Response to look for any other copies and delete from user mailboxes. The products link together, which makes the whole process very easy. One other feature, in Essentials, is the Cloud Archiving Service, which you can set to archive all of your user's emails. You can then search the archive for emails, even for user's who have left, and had their mailboxes deleted.

 

We have a couple of Synology NAS boxes, which were set to backup Office 365 when I first arrived, even though we had Barracuda Essentials. Personally, I'd rather leave all that data in the Cloud.

I moved to Redstor after using it at a previous MAT, where we had to restore a site for real.

 

It was very good, albeit afterwards we bought resources to hold a local mirror as the restore speed was slow

 

The ability to mount a drive and use it live or restore a VHD and alike was very useful

 

We also found certain users machines we would put an Agent on to Backup the whole machine, which was a useful option
