hreid Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 I'm looking at getting some new laptops. Has anyone bought the Stonebook pro laptops in recent years and can speak of their experience with these devices? Thanks
Andycat Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 We bought 60 before Summer. Only had 1 failure out of them (a stick of RAM replaced on site next day). Users have been very happy so far, after previously having HP or Lenovo. At the time the Framework Quotes worked out cheaper for the Stones with twice the RAM and SSD size.
OLPTech Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 We brought a bunch of stone laptops and PCs during lockdown as they were the only ones we could get stock of (we are primarily HP), we've now taken all of the stone laptops out of staff circulation as had a load of issues with the batteries dying (about 90% of the batteries in the Stone Book Lites had their batteries replaced but they still had issues after too - support was great however). We had a both Stone Book Pros and Lites in terms of laptops but our staff personally complained about them all the time so we went back to HPs for both laptops and PC and staff don't complain anywhere near as much anymore. Maybe we just got a bad batch of PCs and Laptops during lockdown I'm not too sure.
ovenchips Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 We picked up a batch of these about 2-3 years back, and then some of their newer, smaller ones this year - the bigger ones are a bit "floppy" and we've had a lot of charger / battery failures, atleast 50% have been logged with Stone for various replacements/repairs since. The smaller ones have been more reliable and don't feel so cheap, but we've had a lot of driver issues with them - Windows kicking out display drivers on windows update is a common one.
TheHyperTechie Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I had a stonebook pro in my previous role. Was solid, and could be upgraded quite easily. I popped in an extra stick of ram and a second SSD (if I recall) Never had any issues, their warranty is great to. Always came to us next business day to fix any issues.
FirstClass Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) I've used loads of them accross 11 schools. Good solid reliable laptops with great warranty service should you have a fault in the warranty period. I deal with a guy called Alan Sim [email protected] Drop him an email and he'll do you a good deal. Edited November 22, 2024 by FirstClass
