Sonic007 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hi there, I'm looking for a new Dell PowerEdge T360 server which will run two VM's (a domain controller and Sims Server)....with the following Spec: - Intel® Xeon® E-2436 2.9G, 6C/12T, 18M Cache or similar CPU - 64GB RAM - One main 480GB SSD Drive which will be the main boot drive for the server - One 8TB SAS SATA Drive which will host my VM's. What do you recommend? If anyone can give me a good quote please get in touch. Many thanks.
Cat_Jam148 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 If you're not against used hardware, I'd give Dave at ICT direct a message. Sorted us out with a great server and warranty. Compared to new servers, I couldn't justify spending more and getting much less.
Olliedawg Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 +1 for ICT Direct Also could try these : Servers Direct - Servers | Networking Equipment | NAS Drives I've bought a Dell server through Everything ICT Public Sector Procurement Framework - DfE Recommended before - was relatively painless & got a good long warranty too.

Prices always seem fair and competitive as well.
PotNoodleTech Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Been running my school on used servers for years. Absoloutly no reason to pay through the nose for a new server when you can let a moronic fortune 500 company recycle a thousand servers after 2 years and then buy it for 25% of the new cost. Win win!!

Storage wise, get more than 1 for each use case for the love of god! 1 Drive failure and you're up s*** creek, Get 2 for the OS and run in RAID 1, then at least 3 for VMs and RAID 5. (will get speed boosts depending on raid also)
Sonic007 Posted November 20, 2024 Author Posted November 20, 2024 I forgot to mention this is a backup server so I already have another in case of failures.

Aye but even so - You want more than 1 of each type of disk D: (Even more so if a backup device!) Last you want is to failover to it and it instantly dies.
