PDF Editor

Hi all,

 

Hope you are well.

 

I was wondering if anyone uses a free PDF like PDF24? We've got Adobe CC but I am really not a fan of Adobe software, so was looking at any alternatives.

 

Any recommendations?

Depends on the PDF, I've generally found that opening it in Word often does a pretty good job of the conversion these days.

 

Annotation can be done in Edge easily enough, so I guess the questions are how complex is the PDF document, and how often do you need to convert them?

We push out PDF24 to some users and they like it. It does need administrator rights to perform the updates though.

Chromebooks have native pdf annotation and editing and give very good results. Canva, which is free to Edu has a pdf editor which has allowed me to edit some files that Word messed up. Word does a decent job and if you right click a pdf of Google Drive > Open in Docs it converts to Google Docs.

Most conversations I have about PDF editor go along the lines:

 

Why do you need a PDF editor?

 

- Because I need to create secure documents

 

But, if you can use a PDF editor to make changes to a PDF... How is it secure?

We then supply a Foxit licence and they promise to look into sharing documents securely on SharePoint using the guides we supply.

 

Make sure to get managed education licensing - the saving grace is that we can reclaim and relocate licence when people leave. We were spending a fortune on Adobe licences allocated to individuals that disappeared when people left.

Ours usually want a PDF editor so they can either nick a policy document from another school, or to edit a policy document of their own when they can’t find the Word original!

 

I have a couple of old copies of Acrobat Pro kicking around for it.
