Photocopier Costings

Hi All,

 

We are just starting the process of procuring new photocopiers. We currently have three RISO machines - one with full booklet making and folding and two with small duplexer and stapler.

 

We've got a renewal quote from RISO, and two quotes from local companies. Also going to look at the frameworks.

 

I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their price per page copy charges for A4 colour and B&W, which company you are using and which brand copier?

 

Obviously there's a lot of factors to consider particularly where we are already RISO and staff are used to the 120ppm output.

Going through a framework helps buffer you from their false promises.

Even then check the small print as you can find hidden terms like charging double a4 for a3 prints, charges for scanning, charges for being connected to the network, not being connected to a network, for monitoring by them and for not being monitored by them etc

The sales people will lie to you to get a sale.

Photocopiers are pretty simple, assume every company is going to rip you off, protect yourself from this by only buying through a framework agreement.

 

I don't agree with LAs / Government interfering too much in school decisions, but buying copiers not on an approved framework agreement should be banned, too many stories of schools getting ripped off.

If it isn't on the Gov frameworks don't touch it with a barge pole no matter what the small local company promises.

 

Literally thousands of schools around the UK have been conned into terrrible photocopying leases over the last 20 years. Frameworks have stopped this in it's tracks.

My suggestion is to also go with the framework. How is the reliability and support for RISO devices?

Hi,

 

Yes, framework quote has gone in through CPC now so will see what that yields; however I'd still be interested to hear the price per click being paid by other Schools whether that be a framework quote or otherwise as my experience of frameworks so far (on IT hardware) is that I've always been able to achieve a better price myself through negotiation etc.

@gszech - reliability and support on RISO has been a mixed bag. The machine supplied brand new has been very reliable with little issues; but they also supplied a refurbished machine and that one has been just terrible. The engineers are good, they turn up quickly and they repair; but where RISO have let us down is having someone to talk to, to discuss the ongoing issues. We had a not very good account manager and then no account manager for months; having said that the new account manager is very good and seems very genuine too - but the cynic in me says we are approaching renewal...

Just picked up on 120ppm, it used to be far cheaper to have 2 x 50/60ppm machines and still have change but gives you more resilience if one went down just something to factor in.

Have a chat with docex360, they have just replaced a few of our sites with Epson inkjet copiers and they are awesome, so good, fast, cheap to run (a LOT less electricity!). PM me if you want more info.

We changed suppliers in Feb. We replaced our RISO with a production B&W Laser (120PPM) and was £700PQ cheaper. Our Cost per Mono is £0.00210 and Colour is £0.0209. Even thought we did go through a framework been having issues with SLAs which have never been met!

Going through a Framework should be a statutory requirement for schools purchasing MFDs. The likes of YPO & ESPO can do all the legwork for you. Give them your requirements, wait 2 weeks and then viola, 5-7 easily comparable quotes.

 

After going through the process recently now £0.0019 mono / £0.015 colour
