Good morning,

 

When we migrated to OneDrive I put in place some traditional folder redirection GPOs that redirect Documents, Favorites, Music, My Pictures and My Video to %onedrive%\Documents etc.

 

But now I'm interested in using the Known Folder Silent Move via Intune which at the moment is configured to move Desktop, Documents and Pictures. I have tested on an empty test account with none of the above traditional policies applied and it worked perfectly.

 

However I'm worried about what might happen when I enable the Intune policy for existing users with data and remove the traditional policies if that makes sense?

In the end, I went for it, implemented the known folder move via InTune using the Microsoft suggested settings that Tablet Academy gave us during training and took away all of the on-site redirection GPOs.

 

Login times are quicker, no negative impact to staff in terms of missing files. The only thing is that I think our Teams installation is done in a bit of a strange way so users who move around a lot end up with multiple icons for it on the desktop, presumably where Desktop redirection to OneDrive forms part of that policy I mentioned.

We see something similar. Its on my to do list to look into and fix. I say on my to do list, I really mean some where on a list, ready to be added to the backlog that will become the to do list once I've ha da clear run a the more urgent things for a few weeks.

 

As far as I can tell it seems to be because the icon gets created as Teams/other apps install, before OneDrive client has finished syncing for the first time for that user on that machine.

 

I don't think there is any way of triggering things to only happen after OneDrive completes a sync.

 

If you find a good way to solve it, please do share it.

 

We use a really really rough GPO Preference to delete shortcuts that have computer names in their filename. It contains the problem, but we have to tweak things every time we find a new icon that is multiplying.

Sounds like you have got further with the multiplying icons than I have, thanks for the advice

Do you still have a set redirected desktop and start menu?

I don't think we have a redirected desktop and start menu set by group policy, I would need to double check in case I am missing something I inherited.
