Koldov Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 We are having Paxton added to our external gates over the summer. To enable this we are required to provide 2 x POE ports. The nearest available switch (and therefore shortest cable run) has no POE ports. To enable access to the POE ports would require something like (at least) another 100ft and everything that entails (meaning a total run of 150ft+). Does anybody know if it's possible to use injectors with a Cisco 2960 (I know, I know, but I'm working with what I've got for now) and if so, should I suggest them for the ports on the nearer switch?
Aprice Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Injectors should work with pretty much anything, it's just putting power over the pairs. The switch will be oblivious to the POE
3s-gtech Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Injectors tend to just work with whatever switch you're using. You may need to check that the ports don't disable or block with STP or similar. I've not used them on a cable that long before, and I hoofed them all out when we went to PoE sitewide, but they didn't cause me issues.
synaesthesia Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Can't you specify powered paxton instead? On the assumption there's already power at those games if paxton is being used, that'd surely be a better all round solution. But if not, you can absolutely use injectors with that or any switch.

PotNoodleTech Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Yes you physically can run injectors no technical reason why not but they are not good practice and it is just something else to go wrong so you are sacrificing reliability. ( as in 2 x injectors each end and 2 x cheap Chinese power supplies each end to go wrong per drop).
