TheHyperTechie Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Hi All, Looking for some advice on the best PAYG sim providers. We have three 'trip' phones that get topped up throughout the year. We use EE currently, but was recently told I can only manage 2 PAYG sims on the dashboard, which means I had to create a second account and manage the 3rd sim through this. Not ideal. We don't want any contracts, as the phones don't get used enough to warrant it. I am mainly looking for something with a central management dashboard where I can add unlimited PAYG sims and top them up easily. Thanks!
PotNoodleTech Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Just don't go Pay G - get contract phones then you never have to worry about missing a top up or teachers with 50 kids running out of credit in the middle if sibera. 1
3s-gtech Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Problem with that is most contracts require a direct debit which cannot be set up against many school bank accounts. I'm sure there are exceptions - it'd be interesting to know.

I like your thinking, but it would actually cost us more to have a contract. If you also add in the holidays throughout the year, roughly ~12 weeks the phone(s) will not be used so essentially its just wasted.
steveg Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 We changed ours to contract with three, I think we pay about £5.20 per sim, worked out cheaper and more reliable than the PAYG ones we were using. I think we do pay by direct debit though, we never used to be allowed to but finance seemed fine with it now. 1
2ilent8cho Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 (edited) I've had 4 sims before on my Smarty account https://smarty.co.uk/all-plans with auto payment billing my school credit card. They start at £6 a month. Was useful for unlimited data and pupils with no concept of data Edit: Just noticed they do group plans allowing upto 8 sims. https://smarty.co.uk/group-plans Edited June 17, 2024 by 2ilent8cho 1

Do you have to commit to the payment every month with these then? or are you able to top up when needed?

They are rolling monthly, but you can turn it off for up to 6 months apparently. https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/952720-how-do-i-pause-my-plan
