Hi all

I'm starting to lose my patience with Smoothwall. I am wanting to share this to see if someone has experienced anything familiar and can help.

We had an S8 box replaced with an S9 in the last week of last half term and the migration was done by a Smoothwall employee remotely, who frankly, seemed to struggled a little bit.

Everything seems to work apart from accessing the Internet on the Guest Wi-Fi. Internet works fine on our regular staff/student Wi-Fi network. The Guest Wi-Fi network is setup on its own 172 subnet.

We have a cambium cloud-based Wi-Fi solution. When you connect to the guest SSID, you are redirected to a cambium guest portal. The S8 works fine but the S9 doesn't, just get page cannot be displayed or hangs as if after connecting to the SSID it cannot find the Internet.

Now I seem to be going around in circles with Smoothwall and I am now at the back of the queue having to explain the situation again to a first line employee, even though I'd say this was an incomplete and failed migration and it needs to skip this level and be looked at properly.

Anyone experienced similar or have any additional contacts for this? I have already tagged in the Head of Delivery and others but only option apparently was to log a ticket.

It's currently in the hands of some level of support beyond 1st.

Old S8 worked fine, this new S9 box won't work the same way, even with the migrated settings.

Also just had to rearrange a call because no one rung me.

It's not great really.

can you see any of the traffic from your guest network on the smoothwalls firewall logs? how does the guest network get to the smoothwall? dedicated interface? vlan or does it route from the cambium controler?

if you go into address object manager can you see the guest vlans network listed in internal networks?
