lparry Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Has anyone managed to get their Smoothwall to block google searches successfully? We've got a block everything policy in place for students in an exam security group and it blocks everything but a google search (so I can search BBC and it shows all the results but the second I press on it, then the block applies). Doing a policy test from the smoothwall itself shows that it should be blocked. Any ideas would be appreciated!
RLR Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I had a similar issue on our Fortigate when using flow-based inspection mode instead of Proxy-based. Not sure if smoothwall has a similar setting.
robintech Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 (edited) Is it definitely above any allow policies in the application order?, had this happen to me where some policy for TVs I think; was allowing iPlayer and Disney etc for Exam laptops because it saw them as unauthenticated briefly and applied that policy Edited May 3, 2024 by ittech2342323
lparry Posted May 3, 2024 Author Posted May 3, 2024 We have QUIC set to bypass but not done anything with HTTP2 - will have a look after todays exam's are finished just in case I break something whilst looking!
lparry Posted May 10, 2024 Author Posted May 10, 2024 Thanks for the assist's folks. Turns out it was QUIC related but our Smoothwall is a bit wonky at the moment in its parent/sibling configuration! Smoothwall support managed to resolve it in the end. 1
