Arrrrgh .PDF to .Docx

You know the drill lol. Personally i use Adobe to do this. However the school doesn't have adobe anymore.

 

I know there's lots of options both paid and free, Just wanted to know what you guys are using from a "Free for edu", "OpenSource" standpoint, where you've had decent results from the conversion.

 

I'm trying to push for adobe again, however it costs the same to get the full suite that it does just the PDF editor!

Word will do this without any extra software, and the results are usually a little better than the free sites you have to upload your wonderful data to for conversion, but it still falls over with formatting on tables etc. Interested to see if there's anything other than Acrobat that produces good results.

The full version of Acrobat on a couple of PCs is all you need. I do heads Pa, business manager, finance officer, data manager.

 

Whatever you do don't use those pdf conversion website or your basically giving away the data in every document you convert which could result in a data breech depending on how much personal info is in the documents.

Google Docs can do it, but YMMV WRT tables and any other 'exotic' formatting.

 

Also, if the Preview app on a Mac does a good job of it, you could use it as an excuse to buy a sexy computer.

Word does it.. however formatting can go haywire sometimes..

Just be cautious of using online depeding on what data is in said PDF.

 

We use Tungsten Automation Power PDF (nee Kofax, Nunance) at work for editing PDFs, I've used its PDF->Doc Coverter a few times, It wasn't 100% but fairly close I found (although they weren't highly complex).

 

It's licensed on a per seat basis with a perpetual license model.

Word or Inkscape, depending on what we want to do with it. I altered a python thing to batch convert using Word

Most of the time right-clicking the pdf and opening with Word works for us.

I didn't know about this and now we're wondering why it's free. They say they're GDPR compliant but we're wondering if they're only now offering it because they can use the files to train their AI models. That poses the question of converting say a child's medical history that's stored as a PDF and needs amending.
