1st CV for a 16yr old - help

My Son has just announced he would like to get a job, he knows of one locally and needs a CV.

 

What does he include on his CV? He's sitting his GCSE in a few months and has no previous work exp.

He just needs to put the relevant personal details in. If he has no work experience, he can only really do a personal statement about how he is keen to learn, reliable, punctual and hard-working. There isnt much else to say

Its going to be tricky, but are there any hobbies or self taught learning you can add? Do they help friends and family with computer issues? Any Saturday jobs or anything like that? If its a school job, are there any other skills he has that might be useful to the school?

 

Really at this stage you need to show an eagerness to learn and do the job. A phone call to the company might go a long way to showing that. Even if its just asking if they have received the CV, or asking if he could talk to someone in the department to see if they can help him get started. That would tell me a lot if he was looking for a job here. It might not be enough to be successful, but you never know.

Put what he is good at. Eg. Maybe he's an ace at photoshop or has experience buidling Pc's for his friends. Maybe he Flies drones and knows how to trouble shoot them.

Maybe he builds websites.

Maybe he is good at digital music production and has experience with sound and AV.

Anything related to hobbies and how they can be useful to the job can be beneficial.

Clubs, awards, cool things he's done at school, volunteering in the community. Treat it similar to a UCAS application in terms of selling himself.

 

If it's the first job and the line manager's open to hiring 16-18yr olds, they're basically looking for honesty, punctuality, asking questions before doing anything daft and not being a liability to themselves or others.

 

Character reference from form tutor or headteacher probably wouldn't hurt (provided your son hasn't burned any bridges there).
