Systray icon overflow GPO?

Just starting to play with 11 here.

 

I can't seem to find a gpo to expand or also show all systray icons.....

 

Anybody point me in the right direction?

I'm afraid its not a feature in Windows 11 anymore.

 

Microsoft removed it for some reason, we'd really like it back as well. Hopefully at somepoint they'll add it back.

I'm finding a couple of things like that, the new "widget" icon on the taskbar seems to be another i can't remove via gpo, i guess it's the same thing we had with windows 10 though i guess.

We have widgets blocks on windows 11 using the following computer policy:

Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Widgets then set Allow widgets to disabled

Well the latest temples sorted my widget issue out. thanks for that!

 

i just assumed the link i had also displayed that latest templates

You're more than welcome, it's frustrating there isn't a page that show the latest admx available or if there is I can't find it.

This is on my list of Win11 things to investigate. The option in the Settings app to not hide any systray icons isn't there in Win11, but iirc you can opt to have particular icons always show. Hoping there'll be a way to reg hack that for certain things we deploy (Google Drive and PaperCut clients).

Just looking at this today, can't seem to unhide all still..... can't do it on the my home computer either though so..... same i guess..... odd there's not a view all.

In the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\NotifyIconSettings, the keys there correspond to systray icons. If a key has a DWORD entry named IsPromoted set to 1, then the app will be pinned for the user in the systray.

 

The problem is that the key names look like random strings, so you'd have to have a user logon script that searches through those keys to find a match within ExecutablePath, to then add IsPromoted to the key.
