kennysarmy Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Decorating and would like some ideas on what wall paint colour might go nicely with our sofa, we're both rubbish at interior decorating and choosing colours

DalekSec Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 If you can find the colour code something like this may help: https://www.canva.com/colors/color-wheel/ I know there is a website out there that tells you loads that go with colours but can't find it! Been 8+ years since i've used it. 1
Steve21 Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Search up decor colour wheels for a few ideas Generally it’s the opposite colours that work well together (normally green/blue depending on the red shading) Steve
JRA Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Turns out I'm not because I made a load of furniture (yes made. From wood and that) for a room I was decorating last year. Chose the colour to match (or at least in my mind it did anyway.) I wanted beige. I wanted beige walls. Stop laughing it would have been nice! Anyways bought my beige paint because the label was beige and started painting my walls. They were grey. The beige paint was in fact grey. Zinsser primer (not the cheap stuff mind) and everything prepped so nothing there to taint the colour of purest grey or interfere with things! I went through a series of mad denial stages like "oh, maybe it just needs another coat" and "ah, m-m-maybe when it dries fully" and "t-t-the lighting must be wrong in here. Yeah that." As I stared at my grey, grey walls. I started telling people about my grey walls. They said things like "well sometimes the label doesn't look quite the same as in real life" and then anyone who came over got the label in their hand and a look at the walls and invariably went "oh boy yeah that is NOT that colour - that wall is GREY mate!" Moral of the story is get a tester pot. Because I didn't and I wake up in a grey room with a load of mismatched wooden furniture in now. 1

CHiLL Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Is there any promotional imagery of that sofa, or images that anyone's posted of it? Just wondering if you could steal some interior design ideas from them. Or look for similar colour/pattern sofas and see what design people are using for the rest of the room. Usually the seller will have a design team that will have put thought into the photo shoot or there's a tonne of inspiration on Pinterest, etc. 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 That's a really tricky colour to match! I reckon either a deep almost black green if you're okay with super darks walls (I am, but you need good lights). Alternatively you might be best sticking with classic magnolia and picking a deep red for a feature wall. 1

Had something similar in the previous house - other half wanted to have a 'feature wall' in the second bedroom, and decided she'd like it to be "white with a hint of blue", so that was the paint we purchased. Turns out "white with a hint of blue" is just blue. 3
