Toner Recycling

With regards to Enviro Electroniic - I went on their live chat yesterday on their website and asked the question and (I think it said Sam on the chat but can't remember 100%) and they refused to confirm or deny that they now charge for toner recycling and I should email them the query instead if they want a proper reply.

 

In various places on their website it still says they take toners for Free from Schools so at this moment in time I would still recommend them for free toner/weee removal.

Book a collection and you will get the email with the information about it. I also contacted them and they replied its now its own service and they can send me the prices (which I've asked for)

Next time get on a framework direct with a reputable tier 1 manufacturer, by manufacturer I mean the company that makes the actual copiers not random third party companies who'se job it is to just skim extra money off you.

 

I'm not sure why we are with ASL. In fact, I know why, it used to be B&M and they got took over. The contract is up next year so I'll be free to look elsewhere.

We had a collection a couple of weeks ago and they took all the toners and no mention of a seperate charge.  It's a bit odd as if it started on the 1st of March why 25 days later are they still advertising it as free on their website.  Seems odd behaviour to me.

we used to use Infotone and they recycled the old cartridges free of charge, was a little while ago though

Just had a quick look on their website and it looks like they still collect them for free.

I noticed that too.

 

I have a collection coming up & we've been putting our toners in the bin. I'm not taking them out & will be arguing the fact that it wasn't communicated

Just got the email from them today!

 

 

Still mentions the 1st of March (that's 27 days ago now) and their website still says free collection of Toner and there are no mentions of costs in their email which is very odd as either way they should really say if it's still Free or if it's now chargeable.

If it is chargeable, surely hiding this information by saying to people "For further information on exceptions/Ts&Cs please speak to an agent." isn't legal or at least not in the spirit of the law?!

I don't see why anyone would collect compatible / remanufactured  toners unless it was in order to get a load of actually good stuff at the same time , it's pure e-waste

99% of what we get collected is pure e-waste anyway - if it still worked, we'd still be using it!

An estimated £14billion worth of valuable metals are discarded each year and only a small proportion are sent to WEEE recycling companies to recycle - they dont just sell working equipment on for a profit, they send faulty, non-working, damaged and old untested equipment away for recycling.  The circuit boards are stripped from most items as that's where the value is.  Sadly most of the plastic cases end up in landfill.

I mean reman or third party compatible toners cost more to recycle and final disposal than they get in materials, so it doesn't make sense to collect them for free. As part of a larger group of items as a loss leader kind of thing it makes more sense.

We have used infotone multiple times for collections since starting this thread. You have to make at least 1 purchase with them each year but they will then happily collect compatibles (they do prefer they are their own compatibles). We now buy our toners through them as they worked out cheaper and you get freebies each order!

I’d still recommend infotone. We used them and they were brilliant. If you don’t mind buying second hand toner you can build up recycling credits for money off orders as well.

Not quite got enough to justify a collection yet - should be soon though.

 

We have found a more permanent solution to our toner problem - out of the blue they've decided to go for a Managed Print Solution so in the summer all 50+ printers are being replaced with a dozen or so MFDs!!

 

I'll update you all when we give infotone a try...

You may find the MPS provider insist on OEM toners. Ours include toners and recycling in the per page cost.

The MFDs our MPS uses have toner tubes that are simply plastic tubes full of toner so nothing like the HP Toner Cartridges we currently use.  They provide large cardboard boxes to store the empty ones in and then take them away for free when full.  I assume this saves them money on buying new ones as they can simply re-fill them with toner.

 

I've asked our Technician to let me know when he tries out infotone for the first time so I can update you all to let you know how we get on with them.

Infotone here for the last at least 15 years, brilliant service, fill the form in, they send a date and a label, box em up, they collect job done all at no cost.  We buy all our toners from them, no one has ever beaten the pricing, get freebies in every box to keep the sugar levels going  also
