Hi all.

I'm working with an educational trust and we are using a very archaic platform called [sIMS] and have the extremely urgent need to have documents raised within this platform as .doc format. The only problem here is that when the document is accessed within [sIMS] itself, the document shows as an .xml format.

Is there any option of this being able to be set the file format within [sIMS] as .doc format as default so that we can avoid having to log on to hundreds of individual staff computers and manually change the default app settings / file associations?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously the answer above should get you where you need to be, but on this point...

IIRC you can push out a file associations XML in a GPO to all machines if you have your staff computers set-up in a Domain/AD environment (?)

Not an endorsement or advertisement for that website, just an example from a quick internet search on a way to do it.
