Bankesy Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Good afternoon, I'm trying to establish where our devices are picking up the Teams Machine Wide Installer from, pretty sure it's not AD or MDT task sequence. I've been deploying 'Microsoft 365 Apps for Windows 10 and later' (including Teams) via Intune so would this method be putting the machine wide installer onto devices? Thanks
Norphy Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Quite possibly. Teams can come from the Office installer. Do you have the XML file that the Office installer uses to install Office for you?
mdrabble Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Are you devices hybrid joined and do you have Intune deployment of Office 365 set to all devices? This caught me out with a similar issue - where I had Office 365 deployed via SCCM including MS Access without Teams and then shortly afterwards Access was gone and Teams installed. Turned out all devices are Hybrid joined as part of the deployment, as since I set Intune to deploy Office 365 with different packages to all devices (without access and with Teams) - Intune, then kicked in and deployed the Intune deployment of Office.
Bankesy Posted December 19, 2023 Author Posted December 19, 2023 @Norphy Yes there is an 'Office' application in MDT and XML for it in the deployment share but I don't think it's being deployed this way, I inherited the task sequence which at first was installing a reference image at the OS stage but I changed this so it was just installing a base OS. I wondered if MDT was installing 'Office' as a default app when I couldn't find a specific instance but can't see any sign of this either. @mdrabble Yes devices are hybrid joined and the Intune deployment is set to all devices. @TriggerHappyUK Thought of that, can't see anything.
mdrabble Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 @Bankesy - are the MDT and Intune deployments the same? or is it just the Intune Deployment that has Teams includes? Sounds as if the Intune deployment is installing over the MDT deployment, which is why Teams is being installed (if they are different) I would put any Intune devices into a separate group and deploy Intune apps to that group instead of all devices.
Bankesy Posted December 20, 2023 Author Posted December 20, 2023 @mdrabble From what I can tell, the MDT deployment of Office calls a configuration XML that installs O365ProPlusRetail. No specific mention in there of Teams being included or excluded but looking at this link I guess it is being included because it's not being excluded? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/troubleshoot/installation/product-ids-supported-office-deployment-click-to-run But as I say, I'm pretty sure no part of the task sequence is installing the Office app or using this config file so I'm struggling to understand where devices are getting the Teams Machine Wide Installer from. Unless it's coming from the Intune deployment that does include Teams. Thanks
thimon Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Any third party tools being used? Chocolately? PDQ?
Bankesy Posted December 21, 2023 Author Posted December 21, 2023 @thimon Not to my knowledge It's a mystery
TriggerHappyUK Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Can you do a manual install of Windows, then add it to the domain. See if it installs Teams. If not, remove from domain, then add it to Intune and see if Teams installs. May be able to find out what system is then installing it
thimon Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Find out which GPO’s are being applied to the computer. Expand each of those in Group Policy and search for the word teams?
