VMWare physical host reporting NIC running slow

We have two hosts running around 15 VM's.

 

We've noticed some very poor network performance on one VM.

 

On checking the physical adapters on the host which has that VM on I've noticed vmnic5 is only running at 100Mbps (looking back at the installation docs it should be running at 1Gbps)

 

Now I've found the potential problem I'm not sure what to do about it as my VMWare knowledge is limited.

 

How can I find out which VM or VM's are actually utilizing this NIC?

The answer will depend. Are you running a vCenter server? If so are you using a distributed switch?

You can go to the ESXi host cli and type esxtop and ten press the n key, that will tell you what NIC a VM is specifically using. Handy if you have multiple physical NICs on a virtual switch.

Very odd.

 

Double checked all the patch cables and issue has resolved, speeds now at 1Gb :/

 

Guess one was knocked during recent works in one of the cabs.

We had similar. A fibre patch lead from the SAN to a switch was bumped. Lots of packet loss and performance issues. Touched it and heard the click. All issues disappeared. It probably wasn’t 100% seated properly during installation 3 years prior.
