Cloud hosted Papercut MF Application Server

Hi All,

 

In order to look at centralising services we are looking at hosting a Papercut MF Application server in the cloud for our academy. We would then have our schools within the academy setup as site servers so all queues would remain onsite.

 

Can I ask has anyone implemented this setup and how they have found it?

Would Papercut Hive not be a better solution for you?

When I last looked people didnt seem to rate it and said it wasnt really ideal for education use.. unless that has now changed? do you use it?

That will be Papercut Hive, I have this on one copier at the moment, I would say it is a "developing product" I wouldn't want to use it on all my devices at the moment.

I wouldn't say PaperCut is ready yet - we've had it in one primary for about 7 - 8 months and once activated it works great - it's just a pain to activate for each user on each device.

We are thinking to get PaperCut Hive soon. How / what's so annoying with activation on each user device ?

So the staff / students all need to receive an e-mail and approve the print on a device by device basis.

 

Not to bad if you are One2One devices - the staff all use the same laptops but the children especially in the primaries all just pick up a random laptop. As we've not enabled mail for reception / Year 1 kids etc. Then they'll never receive the email to activate their account.

 

The reporting side is lacking compared to Papercut MF - but I could get by with the reports available if the activation side of things was resolved.

They need to make it easier to deploy.... having to create two install packages, and then get each user to activate via code is a pain....

That's probably the way forward if you are self-hosting in the cloud

We run MF centrally (not in cloud) then site servers per school, not sure if we will retain site server for primaries in long run as looking to centralise them too.

 

Printing seems to be one of the bigger reasons on why going serverless is easier said than done.

We run PaperCut MF in the cloud with no site servers. Works perfectly fine, had no complaints.
