USB C Dock with VGA - VGA output limited to 1024x768

We have purchased some Belkin 11-in-1 USB-C docks (INC004btSGY), which provides a one cable solution for charging, display, USB connectivity, audio, Ethernet, etc. So far they've been pretty solid. However, we are noticing that when the projector is connected via VGA and set to Extended display, the display resolution is limited to 1024x768 (Recommended) as shown in the Windows settings. But if we use Duplicate display, it will display at the laptop's native resolution, 1920x1080. The projector we're using is a Casio V10X, which we know 100% does 1920x1080 over VGA (as we've been using it for years this way with the previous desktops and does it via duplicate screen). When in extended mode, Windows display settings won't show higher resolutions as an option and the Intel Graphics Command Centre doesn't have the option to change resolution in the app and directs you to the Windows settings.

 

We've tried two different types of USB-C laptops; HP ProBook 450 G9 and Dell Latitude 3520.

We've also tried a similar dock; an i-Tec dock (C31FLATPRO112WUK), which has the same sort of configuration/layout as the Belkin.

If we connect purely HDMI to the projector, it works and outputs at 1920x1080.

 

So I've narrowed it down to the dock VGA output, but I'm not sure why it's doing it.

 

Our next steps are to either;

- Replace the dock with one that someone recommends, that also has VGA output, 100W PD, Ethernet, etc

- Replace the VGA cable runs with HDMI

 

If anyone can recommend anything that would be great!

Tried an HDMI to VGA converter from the dock? That’s what we still have in many rooms, as our docks don’t have VGA.

We have some Startech docks that do exactly the same. Startech have come back and said it's 'a feature'.

We have and it also had the same resolution limitation.

We're using these - 90w delivery with a DP - VGA dongle? Close enough? Refurbished they're 60 quid.

Okay, so our docks are Lenovo Hybrid USB-C ones. They’re good kit. Tested with different laptops, PCs and Macs.

Do the laptops support DP Alt Mode and is it turned on?

 

Have you tried setting the displays lower resolution - say 1440x900 and seeing if the behaviour is different?

According to the spec sheet, it has:

1 USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4).

It doesn't specifically state alt mode, though I'm assuming that and what they've described is the same thing?

 

I can set the resolution to a lower one manually, though it won't remember it. As soon as the dock is disconnected and reconnected, it will go back to 1024x768, because that's what Windows is showing as the recommended resolution.
